I joined Winx as an advisor in 2024 just before the election. I believed then, as I do now, that no matter how much money you make or who wins an election, you deserve to make decisions about your body and reproductive health. They are doing their part to make that possible with sexual, vaginal, and reproductive health products designed and priced for those of us who are busy, uninsured, without easy healthcare access, or just unsure of what’s going on down there. And they want to give you one of everything:
Story time: I met the founders of Winx (who are best friends btw) and when I heard their story and mission, I was in. It was 2019, when Cynthia’s drugstore run spiraled. Picture this… She ran into her boyfriend’s mom with a pregnancy test in hand. She rushed home to tell her co-worker and best friend Jamie. They asked the question so many of us do: Why is women’s health still so awkward and inaccessible? A few months later they quit their jobs, built a business plan, and launched what would become Winx.
Since I’ve been on board, I’ve done everything from integrating the brand into 2024 DNC activations to popping up on college campuses to hand out Restart (their emergency contraceptive). I’ve seen as they have expanded from delivery on Doordash, Gopuff, and Instacart to places like Walmart and Walgreens making vaginal and reproductive health more accessible with every win. P.S.Check out the store locator to find Winx near you.
A lot has changed and fast. With the 4th anniversary of the Dobbs decision, which marked the overturn of Roe and the loss of federal abortion rights across the country, just behind us I caught up with them.
DF: What is your ‘why’ for working at Winx?
G: I was introduced to Winx while we were still known as Stix. Stix had just launched the Restart morning-after pill and its donation bank as Roe v Wade was overturned. I was immediately drawn to the founders’ commitment to women’s health, giving back to the community, and comfortability speaking out in our tumultuous political landscape. I’ve always been passionate about reproductive rights; after interning with the Hillary Clinton campaign in 2016, I decided to study Women, Gender, and Sexuality in college. Getting to bring that longtime passion into a brand I genuinely believe in, on issues that truly matter, makes it easy to show up to work every day.
DF: What is Winx in one line? And what makes it different?
G: Winx is a sexual, vaginal, and reproductive health hub offering accessible products, solutions, and education! Winx is women-founded, owned, and run, and we go beyond just selling products. We pair at-home testing with telehealth access for same-day treatment, and back it all up with the comprehensive sex ed you probably didn't get in high school.
DF: Okay give me an example…
G: Our standout right now are the UTI Test + Treat and Vaginal Health pH Test + Treat: the same diagnostics used at urgent care, but at home. The test + treats let you test at home for the most common infections (uti, yeast infection, bv). The real differentiator is that both include built-in telehealth access to a licensed provider for same-day prescription pickup, if eligible.
DF: The Dobbs Decision overturned Roe v. Wade in June of 2022. In that time huge swaths of the country have lost access to abortion and at the same time OBGYN care deserts have grown creating real barriers to access for women in parts of the US. What do you all see as the way forward? What is your part in it?
G: Four years after Dobbs, we’ve watched a slow collapse of the reproductive healthcare infrastructure that millions of people depended on. Unsurprisingly, the communities already living in care deserts have been hit the hardest. Our role is to continue to make accessing care as easy as possible, creating products that put testing and treatment directly in your hands, telehealth that connects you to a licensed provider from your couch, and education that makes sure you actually know what your body needs. We will also continue to fight for better legislation, but people need healthcare regardless of what’s happening in our government.
DF: I’ve been proud to be an advisor to Winx since 2024. Since then a lot has changed. You recently conducted a customer survey. Since the start of this Trump administration, what have you seen shift?
G: Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” enacted sweeping cuts to Medicaid and effectively defunded Planned Parenthood across many states, putting over a million patients at risk of losing access to contraception, STI testing, and basic reproductive care. A few months ago, we surveyed our community and learned that a majority of our customers have a household income under $50K, don’t have regular access to a doctor, and are managing their health entirely on their own.
Winx exists for this moment. We are working to bridge this gap in care by offering products that help you take care of yourself when you don’t have accessible healthcare, without crippling bills.
DF: In one of the richest countries in the world, so many of us don't have regular access to a doctor. It’s political and it’s personal. How does Winx respond to that reality?
G: On top of the f**ked up reality that healthcare is not accessible for many Americans due to cost, it’s really troubling that over a third of the US is living in an OBGYN care desert. This means no gynecologist, no midwife, no hospital with OB capabilities anywhere in their county. And that was true before this administration made things worse. Without access, infections go untreated, conditions go undiagnosed, and people suffer quietly. Our job is to close that gap as much as we can with accessible products, telehealth, and education. We will never be shy about speaking out, because at this point, vaginal and reproductive health is undeniably political.
