It all started with a massive 100(ish) person halloween party in my LA apartment. I never really colored myself a fall decor girlie. I’m very much a winter and obsessed with Christmas but, the fall feelings always bubbled but weren’t - fed? I am from the east coast after all. Apple picking, my mom’s candy apple creations/curations were always top tier. Hay rides that would ignite an allergy attack felt from space. Endlessly rewatching You’ve Got Mail - I was in it, but it wasn’t in my home growing up. And, not something I thought about as I hoped apartments from NYC to LA until that moment I said - I should have a Halloween party.
The seasonal decor girlie was always there, but she was stifled. Most of the fall decor inspo I saw translated into peoples homes didn’t resonate. I get it. It’s cozy and triggers the warm fuzzy feelings of childhood but aesthetically, the bright orange leaf garland mostly sends me into a shuttering spiral. I created what became a series on instagram last season “Your Fall Decor Is Corny, I’m Here To Help” and it’s become a way to explore decorating ideas beyond the conventional - I sat a few pumpkins on the porch and have either a few or a thousand pumpkin and ghost motif items in the house.
Autumn is so rich. In vibe, in tone, in palette. So, this journey is as much for me as it is my audience.
One of the first ways I like to think about adding autumnal energy into my space is with the color palette. I actually really love orange but seeing a bright orange faux pumpkin against otherwise stark white minimal decor throws me way off. Fall is about warmth, layers and coziness. That can start with the colors we are using.

Fall is a season obvi so, nature/harvest being a large part of how we decorate makes total sense. This is where I think most of us lean into what’s mass marketed (pumpkins) vs seeing all of the opportunity to bring nature into our design in cool and interesting ways. I’m completely charmed but a live magnolia live wreath like any well adjusted human. But there’s also something about this coconut bark wreath that’s just so unexpected and cool. She is whimsy! As much as fresh florals are ideal, there is something to quality dried/preserved and faux options - especially ones that you’re going to want to go back to year after year.

One of my favorite ways to inject fall into my space is to take the things we use throughout the season and, instead of going literal (pumpkin/ghost motif), I like to layer in vibey options. When I think fall, some of the useful and hopefully aesthetically pleasing things that come to mind are things like portals for warm beverages and throw pillows - you get the drift. Here’s the start of what I’m loving right now:
