Choosing Topics with Intention

At the heart of the Decentralized Community Project is meaningful connection and conversation. But not every conversation brings the same energy.

Some topics draw people in. Some invite us to reflect. Others challenge us to think more deeply about the world and our place in it. All of them matter.

As you explore designing or selection groups sessions, consider this:
What kind of experience do you want to create?

We’ve found that great conversation sessions tend to fall into three broad categories. When groups offer a balance across them, people feel more engaged, supported, and inspired.

These sessions explore shared culture, current events, and everyday curiosity.
They’re timely, fun, and rooted in the world around us.

Example Topics:

• “Barbenheimer & Belonging: What Makes a Cultural Phenomenon?”

• “Is AI Going to Steal My Soul or Just My Job?”

• “Hot Takes, Cold Pizza: What We’re Watching and Why It Matters”

These sessions help people connect through familiarity, humor, and real-time relevance.

These sessions explore our values, identity, stories, and inner lives.
They help us reconnect with what matters most.

Example Topics:

• “How do we stay grounded when the world is shifting?”

• “What gives us hope right now?”

• “Wonder, awe, and the practices that sustain us”

These conversations deepen relationships and nurture well-being.

These sessions invite reflection on ethics, impact, justice, and collective responsibility.
They don’t tell people what to believe — they make space to ask the hard questions together.

Example Topics:

• “How do we respond to injustice without burning out?”

• “What does it mean to live with courage?”

• “Staying Human While Trying to Fix the World”

These sessions help people move from conversation to clarity, and sometimes, to action.

You don’t need to overthink it — any session can touch all three areas.

But by asking:

• Is this related to real life context and culture?

• Does it speak to something meaningful within us?

• Will exploring this inform how we live or act?

...you help make sessions that are more meaningful for everyone. And when we say everyone, a friendly reminder that we encourage you to freely share your sessions.

Some communities may start with what’s fun and familiar. Others may go straight to purpose and justice. That’s up to you and your group.

As you work to select or write your group’s session topics, you’ll likely notice that you are drawn to certain kind of conversations. Try experimenting with these categories.
