This AI generated image depicts my dream life: writing and teaching yoga on my farm. While we wait for that to materialize, let’s build our daily yoga practice. I’ll go first.
Welcome back, friend! I’m excited to see you again.
Our daily yoga practice begins tomorrow. Here’s what you can expect: me showing up on Substack live, teaching yoga every day.
I can’t say what time, because my real life doesn’t work that way. I’d say Saturday Morning Stretch is at 8 am, but if you’ve been with me for a live session, you realize I may be late. Or early. So…. I’ll show up every day, hopefully in the morning.
Duration of the class? 🤷🏻♀️
It could be an hour. It may be five minutes. Probably not longer than an hour, so you can block off that much time. You might get a bonus 55 minutes to relax, if I’m doing yoga during a road trip and only have ten minutes to pee. Five minutes to relieve my bladder, five minutes to stretch before we sit back down. The time frame is fluid.
What should you wear?
Bring your mat, if you have one. Maybe a big towel or a blanket, since we’ll be down on the floor. Wear what you’re wearing. Make sure it’s comfy and has ample room to stretch. Maybe your dog would like to join?
Wear whatever you want. That’s what I do. I wear what I’m wearing. Sometimes that might be jeans, but probably not when it’s hot. Sometimes it’s shorts and a sports bra. Not for any other reasons than that’s what I want. After birthing eight children, I’m not out to impress. Just enjoying a stretch in the sunshine.
Equipment you might need is minimal. A space large enough to lay all the way on your back. You might want a chair. Not necessary, unless you have trouble getting onto the floor. A yoga mat or a towel or blanket. Something to place between yourself and the ground. A yoga strap or kitchen towel. Yoga blocks are a nice addition, however, you don’t need any of these accoutrements.
All you need is yourself and room to move. Everything else is frosting on the cupcake.
Who am I, to be teaching yoga?
I’ve been teaching yoga more than 15 years. I have more than 300 hours in trauma informed yoga training, over 100 hours in trainings focused on yoga for seniors, 100 hours of training in yoga for kids (not my preferred demographic, but I can do it if I must). I also have more than 500 hours of training for different yoga styles, but this section is getting too long and boring.
I no longer teach power yoga, for a variety of reasons, the biggest of which is that I don’t prefer it. The year I taught weekly power hour yoga, I dreaded the class every week. It was jarring to my nervous system.
I teach a slow, gentle style that is my unique blend of asana flows and vinyasa holds.
The first couple of weeks, our daily practices will mostly be “back to basics.” Soothing to your nervous system and accessible for all ages and fitness levels.
As we progress, we’ll add more challenging flows, but we’re starting slowly.
You can always make it harder for yourself.
I think that’s all the house keeping. We begin on Saturday, August 22, 8 am mountain time. The live video will be posted each week, shortly after we finish.
