This has been an exercise in patience, and I can’t believe it’s finally here.

I started working on ‘A Great and Terrible’ back in 2019. There were so many stops and restarts I’ve lost count (The longest being in 2021, when I put everything on hold to dive into building this idea we were calling Band of Bards. I saw an opportunity to help build something that could create change in the community, and the industry… and I needed to try. I’ve been making comics in one way or another for decades now… I could wait a little longer, and devote my energy to helping others first.

That is still the mission, and we’ll talk more about Band of Bards (and how that mission will continue) in the next newsletter.

‘A Great and Terrible’ is a story about redemption and like every good author I took experiences from my own life, and have woven those pieces through this prologue. Write what you know they say.

But above all, I wanted to create a main character and a story that could resonate and connect with others. It sounds cliche.. every creator wants that.

But for me, and akin to many of the people I’ve met along the way, and the many friends I’ve made on this journey I’ve found that making art is deciding to leave the map behind. It’s not about where you’ve been or where you’ve faltered… it’s not about reviews (good or bad), or about Youtube views…

but how it made you feel while you were there creating it.

So this is a call out to anyone who ever wanted to create their own adventure. Don’t stop yourself from forging a new path. You’re allowed to take detours, and you can stop and take a breath. I did it.
