We’re building a Blue Firewall against the Trump Administration

Hi there, it’s Julie Merz, the Executive Director of the DCCC.

I’m thrilled to be kicking off Behind the Blue Firewall -- an inside look at the only Democratic Party committee exclusively dedicated to electing Democrats to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Before I say another word, let’s get familiar: DCCC stands for Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. We’re often referred to as the D-Triple-C or D-Trip for short.

We’re led by our incredible Chairwoman, Representative Suzan DelBene (WA-01), and an amazing group of talented House members who have agreed to serve in DCCC leadership positions that will help deliver Democrats’ message of lowering costs, keeping our communities safe, and protecting individual freedoms.

Here at the DCCC, we’re a couple hundred staffers strong -- each and every member of my team has a unique role to play, but everyone is working toward the same objective:

Flip three or more seats.

Win the House.

Stop Trump.

As the Executive Director, I’m faced with decisions that could make or break Democrats’ chances of winning back the House every day. And with less than four months to go until Election Day, all of our campaigns are kicking into high gear.

So today, I want to pull back the curtain on our 2026 strategy and share with you some of the most important numbers for the Midterms.

In 2024, House Democrats came within just 7,309 votes across three districts from taking back the Majority -- that’s just 0.005% of the total vote.

That was the margin between this MAGA House Majority that rips health care and food assistance from millions of people or a Democratic Majority that defends access to health care and lowers costs for working families.

That was the margin between giving the Speaker’s gavel and control of the People’s House to MAGA Mike Johnson or Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

That was the margin between two years of total control for Donald Trump and rational checks on the abuses of power from this corrupt administration.

In 2026, Democrats only need to flip three seats to reclaim the House Majority. That’s right -- just three seats.

But trust me, we’re not stopping at three.

We have 26 Red to Blue candidates. These are the Democrats running in some of the toughest races across the country. We recruited many of them, and they all have strong records of service, authentic messages that connect with voters, and deep ties to the communities they will represent come November.

We have 26 Frontline members. These are the House Democrats we are fighting to re-elect and keep in the House. They’re facing a wave of GOP money and attacks from MAGA operatives who will do anything to defeat them and rescue Trump’s Trifecta.

And we have 20 additional districts in play. These are the emerging opportunities we are tracking where there’s a chance for a Democrat to compete -- but only if we have the resources to do so.

We’re preparing to go to the mat in competitive districts across the country -- showing up anywhere and everywhere to fight for our democracy.

One of our biggest hurdles to winning in all 72 districts? Finding the funding to get every candidate the support they need to win.

Here at the DCCC, we rely on the generosity of our grassroots supporters to fund our fight for the Majority.

Hundreds of thousands of folks giving $1, $5, or even $10 are changing the nation’s political landscape, one donation at a time.

So far this cycle, we’ve been grateful for the nearly two million donations from grassroots activists in all 50 states.

They’re teachers, doctors, bus drivers, parents, grandparents, students, nurses, engineers. They’re from Pennsylvania, Maine, Florida, New Mexico, Alaska, and every state across the country. They come from all walks of life, with all different backgrounds, but they’re united by one common goal: Reclaiming the People’s House for working people.

With less than four months until Election Day, the support from these folks -- whether it’s chipping in $5, knocking doors for a candidate, or peacefully protesting in their community -- is what will make all the difference.
