Dawes · Talk Back

The duo has been such a beautiful discovery within Dawes HQ. A new side of the band. A new tool in the toolkit. A new dimension to the material - giving the songs a sense of immediacy and intimacy. A way to showcase material we rarely get to otherwise. And for whatever it’s worth, it’s much harder than a regular show. I gotta be the bassist, rhythm guitarist, singer and lead guitarist all at once. I’m not complaining though. It requires a deeper focus that I believe is good for me.

And while it’s been an exciting development in our relationship with the stage, I also feel like it needs to stay occasional for it to stay special. If we started doing entire album cycles like this, it might lose its luster. It’s a potent dose and no one wants too much of a good thing. Our music is naturally suited for quartet or quintet, so this duo experience feels appropriately supplemental; a widening of the spectrum of what folks could come to expect from our shows. And I’m very grateful for that.

Here are the (few) duo sets we have the rest of this year:

7/24 - 7/26 - Newport Folk Festival

7/27 - 7/28 - Amagansett NY

7/29 - Groton MA

11/20 - Madison WI

11/21 - Kimberly WI

Below, for the paid subscribers, is the full duo show from Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara on 9/25/25.
