Pfizercide

I wrote Pfizercide out of the tension between what I was hearing and observing and what medicine seemed prepared to acknowledge. At its centre is an unpublished observation from a high-risk maternity clinic: a reported rise in miscarriage from 13% to 73% during 2022. I have deliberately stated within the poem that these data were not peer reviewed or published. They are presented as something witnessed, not as an established population-level finding. The poem asks a different question: what happens when observations carrying potentially serious consequences are not pursued with sufficient curiosity?

Pfizercide sits naturally alongside Medicine After Nuremberg, where I examine the responsibilities of medicine when evidence is incomplete, risk is uncertain, and institutional confidence begins to displace individual observation. The background photograph is a high-power dark field view of red blood cells within a vesicle. I chose it deliberately: the enclosed blood cells provide a quiet visual nod to the womb, blood and pregnancy, connecting the microscopy to the human concern at the centre of the poem without asking the image itself to carry an evidentiary claim.
