The influence of low nutrient, high caloric subsistence has long imbued hardcore. We’ve discussed the Descendents — their liking of food that tastes good and bonus sized cups of coffee. The Faction insisted on getting Cokes. Teen Idles drank milk. They didn’t care what people said. Mike Muir only wanted a Pepsi. Early AFI could relate. Yes, abashedly, even with the milk. Ick. Though my pus swilling stopped decades ago, the sentiment that inspired such profound aforementioned lyrical directives remains very much part of me. These songs weren’t just about the trash we kids wanted to eat, but a commentary on what trash was not being consumed.
