Vodafone switchers can claim a flexible £120 voucher, while rival providers are offering even larger rewards to customers willing to sign a new broadband contract

Broadband providers are offering gift cards worth well over £100 as they compete to tempt households away from their current supplier.

One of the standout incentives has been highlighted by comparison website Broadband Genie, with eligible Vodafone customers able to claim a £120 voucher alongside a high-speed full-fibre package.

The reward is available with selected Vodafone Full Fibre 910 deals, delivering average download speeds of 910Mbps on a 24-month contract. The package costs £25 per month initially, with no setup charge, although the monthly price is scheduled to rise during the agreement.

Rather than being restricted to one retailer, customers can choose a voucher for Amazon, Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Currys or John Lewis. There is also the option of a prepaid Mastercard, giving households much greater freedom over where the £120 is spent.

Broadband Genie calculates the package’s effective monthly cost at £22.92 after including the scheduled price increases and deducting the value of the reward.

Vodafone is far from the only provider using substantial incentives to attract switchers. Broadband Genie’s current rewards listings include an EE Reward Card worth as much as £165 with its Full Fibre 1.6Gb package.

That particular package offers average speeds of 1.6Gbps and costs £33.99 per month initially, plus a £30 setup charge. It therefore demonstrates why the biggest-looking freebie does not automatically produce the cheapest broadband deal.

Plusnet is offering a Reward Card worth up to £160 with selected packages. Its Full Fibre 145 deal costs £22.99 per month initially, carries a £20 setup fee and comes with average download speeds of 145Mbps.

Other sizeable incentives include a BT Reward Card worth up to £140 and a choice of voucher worth up to £130 with selected Sky broadband packages. The Sky Full Fibre 150 offer, for example, costs £24 per month initially and has an effective monthly cost of £18.58 once its £130 reward is included.

Smaller incentives are also available from TalkTalk, Three and Virgin Media, although the value and type of reward can vary between packages and addresses. Some providers offer shopping vouchers, while others use prepaid cards, account credit, cashback, streaming subscriptions or free introductory months.

The most flexible option is generally a prepaid Mastercard because it can be used at a much wider range of businesses. A retailer-specific voucher could still be equally valuable if it is for a shop where you already spend money.

Broadband Genie advises customers to look beyond the headline gift and check the effective monthly cost before switching. This calculation combines monthly payments, setup charges and scheduled price rises before subtracting the value of any reward.

Connection speed, reliability and contract length should also remain part of the decision. Most of the largest incentives are attached to 24-month agreements, so choosing an unsuitable provider for the sake of a voucher could prove an expensive false economy.

Availability and reward values can change quickly, while some deals will not be offered at every address. Households should therefore use an address checker, read the complete terms and make a note of any claim deadline before signing up.
