Dave Mabe | Dave Mabe teaches systems traders how to make more money with their trading strategies.

I got a Slack message from a long-time MabeKit user, Isaac, recently: (shared with permission)

I think I'm going to take a break from trading.

I was away on vacation, so we scheduled a call for a few days later to catch up and discuss.

I knew Isaac was crushing it after switching from Python to Amibroker through our work together last year, so the message really surprised me.

Maybe he's in a bad drawdown, I thought.

I assumed it had to be bad news.

But when we finally got on the call, the mood was much different from what I expected...

The first thing Isaac said was:

Dave, you know how you always say "Everyone who ever quit trading did so during a drawdown."?

Yep.

Isaac continued:

Well, I must be the first trader to quit on new equity highs.

Interesting, so why are you taking a break?

"I hit my number."

Isaac has had a number in mind for a long time.

If he made that much money from trading, he was set, and he could retire if he wanted to.

And his account ticked over that number recently.

I love this for all sorts of reasons, but the main reason is this:

Most traders who have success like Isaac did achieve "their number," but then they talk themselves into a bigger number.

They move the goalposts.

(I know I have!)

But Isaac stuck to his guns and is taking a break to enjoy his life.

What a baller.

Congratulations, Isaac!

The first trader to quit on new equity highs - I love it!

P.S. Isaac is a regular contributor to the MabeKit Mastermind group I started a few months ago. If you're interested in collaborating with Isaac and other traders like him in the mastermind, hit reply and let me know.
