Defining Personas enables data teams to design Information Products that align with stakeholder expectations and user needs by clarifying how similar groups of people consume data and information to take action and drive valuable outcomes.

The Persona pattern template captures these insights by drawing on research about target Data Professionals and Information Consumers. Each Persona is typically given a name, image, and detailed description of their characteristics, behaviours, goals, and motivations, providing a specific representation that guides more informed design, build and deploy decisions.

The Data Persona template provides a structured way to lightly document:

• The persona’s name;

• A visual identifier;

• A summary of their goals;

• The generic actions or outcomes the persona is trying to achieve;

• The typical users in your organisation who align with the persona;

• The type of data work the persona undertakes;

• Their level of data or tool use and preferred complexity of interaction;

• Their level of data and technology fluency;

• Their preferred content delivery type, access device type, content focus, and level of data access.

By defining descriptive persona defintions, data teams can ensure that the Information Product is designed and built with usability, accessibility, and value in mind.
