I want to tell you a story. It’s about a woman named Sarah, a smart schoolteacher from the suburbs of Melbourne. She’d spent her life building a comfortable nest egg and decided it was time to dip her toe into digital assets. She wasn’t a gambler; she was a cautious investor.

One Tuesday morning, she received an email. It looked official, with the logo of her Australian crypto exchange. The subject line read: “Urgent Security Alert: Please Verify Your Account”. Panicked, she clicked the link. The page looked exactly right. She entered her login details. The page spun for a moment, then gave an error.

Annoyed, she closed her laptop. What she didn’t know was that in those two minutes, her entire crypto portfolio was being drained to zero.

Sarah’s story is heartbreaking because she thought she was doing the right thing. She fell victim to a perfectly cloned website, sent to her via a phishing email.

I’ve seen variations of this story too many times. And it’s why I now teach a simple, 10-second habit that would have saved Sarah’s entire investment.

It’s called The Bookmark Rule.

It’s not technical. It’s not complicated. It’s just a process.

  1. The very first time you go to your exchange or wallet’s website, you move slowly. You type the address in manually. You double-check that it’s the correct, official URL.

  2. Once you’re certain you’re in the right place, you bookmark it. That little star in your browser’s address bar.

  3. From that moment on, you only ever use that bookmark to get to your site. You never, ever click a link from an email to log in.

That’s it. That’s the habit.

It’s the digital equivalent of always putting your keys in the same bowl by the door. It’s a boring system that removes the single biggest point of failure: human error in a moment of panic.

The crypto world has matured. We don’t have to learn these lessons the hard way anymore. We can learn them the smart way. Building wealth is about adopting the right systems, and this is one of the most important ones you’ll ever learn.

This is the kind of practical, real-world knowledge I share in my free guide, “An Introduction for the Cautious Investor.” Request a free copy at www.darrenbartsch.com/contact
