In a World of Chaos, Control What You Can

It’s a strange time to be alive. The news cycle is a relentless barrage of bad news. Wars in the middle east and other parts of the world . Interest rates climbing at a terrifying pace. The price of a full tank of petrol is enough to make you wince. For many Australian families, the pressure is immense.

It’s a feeling of powerlessness. A sense that huge, global forces are dictating the terms of your life, and all you can do is react.

I feel it too. And in my years working with people on their financial futures, I’ve learned that the only effective antidote to this feeling of chaos is to ruthlessly focus on what you can actually control.

You cannot control geopolitics. You cannot control the RBA’s next move. You cannot control the price of oil.

But you can control your habits. You can control your knowledge. You can control the systems you put in place to protect your family’s future, no matter what the world throws at you.

This is why I’ve become so passionate about the systems behind digital assets. Not the hype, not the get-rich-quick headlines, but the boring, foundational technology that allows us to create certainty and trust in a digital world.

Take the idea of a ‘blockchain’. It sounds intimidating. But the concept is profoundly simple. It’s a shared, unforgettable notebook. A way for us to create a permanent, trusted record of who owns what, without needing a giant, centralised institution to act as a middleman.

In a world where trust in institutions is eroding, this is a revolutionary idea. It’s a tool that allows us to build our own systems, on our own terms.

This isn’t about abandoning the old world for the new. It’s about understanding the new tools available to us, so we can build a more resilient future. It’s about taking back a small piece of control in a world that feels increasingly out of control.

It starts not with a big investment, but with a small step of understanding. It starts with learning how these new systems work, so you can decide for yourself if they have a place in your long-term plan.

That’s not hype. That’s just smart. And right now, smart is what we need.

I explain the ‘Shared Notebook’ analogy and other core concepts in my free guide, “An Introduction for the Cautious Investor.” You can download it at darrenbartsch.com/book.
