Let’s Be Honest: Substance Use As Self Discovery is a zine designed to help adults reflect on their substance use with clarity and authenticity.

Packed with thoughtful conversation and writing prompts, this guide invites adults to think through their own experiences and beliefs about substance use, creating a foundation for meaningful, honest conversations with their kids, siblings, parents and close friends.

By exploring your own relationship with substances, you’ll uncover insights, set intentions, and make mindful decisions. This will prepare you to foster open, empathetic dialogue in your family and friend group.

Whether you’re preparing for a big talk with the kids or reflecting on your values with a partner, Let’s Be Honest offers a safe space for you to discuss substance use with other people in your life. It’s a great way to get on the same page your spouse or co-parent about how you want to talk about drugs with your kids.

In this zine, I offer gentle prompts like:

• How are you feeling right now? Name your emotional state and jot down any particular concerns that may be affecting you today.

• Which substances have you been using recently?

• How do you hope the substances you’re using will change or support how you feel?

• Are you generally happy with the choices you’ve been making around substances, or are you seeking to change them?
