The heavily favored Amanda Serrano came into her lineal and unified WBO/WBA women’s featherweight title defense against Lucrecia Manzur looking to break the women’s knockout record, something she spoke about regularly leading up to the bout.
But Serrano not only did not come close to stopping Manzur for what would have been her 33rd knockout to break a tie she is in with Hall of Famer Christy Martin, she was fortunate escape with a victory.
In the end, Serrano won a questionable majority decision as she recorded her 50th career victory in the main event of the Most Valuable Promotions card — the first boxing event to stream live on TikTok — on Friday night at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California.
While one judge scored the fight 114-114 the two others had it 116-112 for Serrano, who reiterated that she would fight once more and then retire.
Manzur appeared to dominate the first half of the fight, which was the first women’s bout scheduled for 12 two-minute rounds instead of the standard 10 rounds for female title fights.
Manzur, who idolizes Serrano, led on all three scorecards after the seventh round. However, all three judges surprisingly gave Serrano the final five rounds of the fight to give her the controversial decision.
