Can you explain the spelling…?
Yes, I am aware what day it is. It’s the Semidemiquaverquincentennial! 250 years of fireworks, hot dogs and imperfection as a union! Watching the tall ships come up the Hudson today, doing my part with The States Project, and already had my hot dogs last night, so I’m all set there.
But it’s Independents Day because… I am celebrating the BETA release of PayMusicians! Are you an independent artist? Do you know independent musicians you’d like to support - conveniently? You’re already listening, streaming…and you want to support them, right?

Artists are already coming in! A head’s up: this is indeed a BETA-version, and I’ll be taking your notes! It’s a very bare-bones application (no design goodies, and no “paste your playlist link” functionality yet - that’ll come next!). Really just checking the pipes - making sure everything is working with the apps first users….YOU ALL!

Book/song/retreat
So, obvy, I’ve been very focused on getting this first version of the app out the door, so music making has taken a backseat to that.
But not for long!
Next up is the awesome Abigayle Oakley’s book club. Gotta write a song for that! We read a funny, deep book, The Humans, by Matt Haig. Very much recommend. I’ll pop an iPhone recording in here when that tune materializes.
And…retreat? NOT retreating - absolutely charging forward! But I’ll be doing an in-town writing retreat sponsored by the lovely folks at the Roundabout Theatre Company here in town (I’ve been in their sweet embrace ever since the wonderful experience we all had doing the Deaf West revival of Big River there). Maybe I’ll get my dad to join? Either way, I’ll be 9am-6pm in a writers room with my guitar, while a handful of other playwrights and writers camp out at desks in the big room. The week of July 20th. Hoping to have some fun stuff to share afterwards!
