This past week I wrapped up my semester-long screenwriting workshop at Brandies, where students learned to use the mechanics of storytelling, script analysis and collective critique to explore their own identities and experiences through fictional narrative writing.

A week earlier I held a MassQing workshop at Emmanuel College for their art therapy students where we explored MassQing as an approach to inner work through outer creativity.

And a few weeks before that, I gave my “Staying Authentic While Marketing Your Work” workshop for artists and creatives through Assets for Artists, where I shared tools and strategies around presenting, pitching and promoting one’s art effectively and authentically in both online and in-person spaces.

I love workshops.

Inherent in their name is the notion that folks are coming together to create and engage with one another. The energy generated through collective creativity and story-sharing is electric and contagious. And I love the practical application that a workshop allows. Theory is cool, and concepts can clarify, but nothing beats rolling up your sleeves and getting first-hand experience through doing.

For folks looking for such an experience, I will be giving not one, but two MassQing workshops the last two Saturdays in May at the Roxbury Branch of the Boston Public Library.

These workshops are free and open to the public (thanks to support from the Fellows of Atheneum Trust Fund), but space is limited and spots are first come first serve.
