During the Christmas of 1914, soldiers who had spent nearly 1/2 a year killing people born under a different flag, sat down with opposing forces for Christmas dinner. A Christmas armistice that started on December 24th is said to have included the following:
“French, German, and British soldiers crossed trenches to exchange seasonal greetings and talk. In some areas, men from both sides ventured into no man's land on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to mingle and exchange food and souvenirs. There were joint burial ceremonies and prisoner swaps, while several meetings ended in carolling. They also played football against each other.
Prior to the armistice, it is conceivable that soldiers may have believed propaganda — that French people were evil, German people were evil, or that the British were evil. Many may even have believed the reasons given in the propaganda such as they’re evil because: it’s the way “they” look, the pasty faced Brits, their culture, “their evil French literature”, or their “language”, the insufferable tyranny of Germans and their grammar!
But one thing was certain. In 1914 they were ALL Christian. Germany in particular was said to be the most literate country in Europe at that time.
Before the armistice:
Soldiers mostly believed:
Christianity
Nationalist Propaganda
After the armistice:
Soldiers mostly knew:
The People they were killing were men just like them, some were fathers with children, and wives.
They learned the Propaganda about Germans, Brits and the French was wrong.
They were still Christian.
Thus the effect of Christmas was no end to the murders.
Now before people try to make excuses that the soldiers were murdering those who spoke a different language because they were defending their country and their families against:
German Expansionism
French / British Economic Hegemony
“Threats” of takeover and domination from another Nation
Realize this: Walking away from the battle field to save the life of a man who you had Christmas dinner with so he can go home to protect his family is a moral act. Even if it means shooting the commander who threatens to kill for deserting, (the present day situation in Ukraine) living with a respect for life is a feature of any moral system, whether it be culture, philosophy or religion. Courage deserving of an afterlife is founded on love beyond oneself..
Obeying orders to kill, whether for greed; the pride of culture and race1; or out of fear while then expecting a blood sacrifice from over 2000 years ago to get a ticket to heaven is subhuman.

For a time I was on the fence whether or not to publish this article because may people in the “Freedom” movement will be offended. However, when I reflected on the true audience of this substack, the one I’m forbidden from posting about by the BC Supreme court order below, I realized that giving up on the truth would fail my duty to the people in this…
