As I loved sharing with you in last week’s story, “Harmonious,” the school year recently ended here in Belgium. And when I went to pick up Elena on the last day of school, there were two words that kept ringing out across the parking lot, as children and parents alike wished each other a happy summer holiday:
Fijne vakantie!
It immediately made me think of a story I first wrote for Dandelion Seeds two years ago, about the vakantie signs that begin appearing all over Antwerp every July.
It’s become one of my favorite summer rituals to share it with you again each year, and as we revisit it today, I hope you’ll give yourself a moment — or perhaps even two — to take a deep breath and rest.
