Hello there! And welcome to Dandelion Seeds, an illustrated newsletter in search of the magic in everyday moments.
A few weeks ago, the girls and I took a trip to the outskirts of Antwerp, to a pick-your-own fruit garden filled with berry vines.
A woman at the entrance kindly handed us all white buckets, before going over what was in season to pick that day: everything from blackberries and blueberries to gorgeous little clusters of white currant berries, which I’d never come across before.
The only thing we wouldn’t find too many of, she said, were raspberries.
“Right now, the summer raspberries are ending, and the autumn raspberries are just starting to come in…they’re in a bit of a transformation.”
As we rode home, our bike filled with the garden’s bounty, I thought of a story I originally shared two summers ago.
It’s called “Everything Sweeter,” and it was inspired by my first encounter with seasonal fruit here in Belgium — and what it taught me about the things I’m trying to grow in my own life. I hope you’ll enjoy revisiting it with me today.
Here’s to the right season,
Candace
