First of all, happy chaos season to those who celebrate (for the uninitiated, this is post-school, pre-camp, hope-your-kids-can-entertain-themselves-while-you-try-to-work time) 🤪
I’ve been feeling like my style is finding its balance point after swinging from all neutrals all the time at one end to all the crazy colors and patterns at the other. I’m ending up somewhere in between with some neutrals, bright blocks of solid color, and interesting streamlined cuts.
However, I’m having trouble finding the minimalist silhouettes I like in the vibrant colors I’m drawn to — the fashion industry seems to believe the myth that minimalism should exist only in neutrals. I also don’t need to buy new clothes. Luckily, I have many colorful accessories and I thought I’d try to add some color and interest to this neutral Pamela Love dress from Rent The Runway1 with a cut I liked.
I gathered said accessories to see what I had to work with and played around making multiple combos of a necklace or scarf, shoes, and bag.
Here are four that I came up with.
With bandana and jelly shoes.
With handmade necklace, bucket bag, and Birks.
With sling bag and sneakers.
With handmade necklaces, bucket bag, and ballet flats.
Funnily enough, when I actually left the house, I ended up with a completely different mix:
