Cypress releases new version every two weeks and judging by the change logs at https://on.cypress.io/changelog they have been pretty busy. For example the v15.18.0 release includes 15+ fixes! Good job, team.
Which brings me to the conversation I recently had with another Cypress user. He asked about Cypress-the-test-runner and Cypress-the-company future. In my humble opinion, as an outsider:
Cypress-the-test-runner despite being an open source project never became a true open-source community project. All decisions regarding the issues, design, etc. are made by the company employees. Which might be less than ideal for the healthy test runner development.
Cypress-the-company is doing some AI-related stuff, none of which is impressive so far. Will the company go public? With the test runner losing marketshare to Playwright, I do not see it happening. My best bet would be the company positioning to be acquired by Amazon or Apple, but this might be blocked by VC investors looking for 10x-50x return on their investments, which might put a highly inflated unrealistic price on the company. For example, see the valuation vs money raised in this report and ask yourself “who would pay 10x that amount?”
So let’s see what happens. Meanwhile, I am going to watch 🇫🇷 - 🇸🇪 game.
