How I Designed My Kids Room

OK!

So after my Dillards collaboration I had to start another project , duh. I was so used to being overly busy I had to find more…I’m sick in the head.

At our house, we co-sleep. And not really intentionally in a granola-mom kind of way, more like my son was such a bad sleeper and doesn’t stay in his room and climbed out of his crib at ONE YEARS OLD- so here we are - kind of way. I have learned to love it. He doesn’t move around or kick and now when he’s gone, it’s a bit lonely.

My daughter on the other hand loves her bed, her sleep, being alone prideful of her room and space kind of girl.

We have a room for my son in our home. It started to fill up with rolling racks and I started to use it as an office.

As time goes on it’s time for him to fly the coop…. thats down the hall. A shared room seemed like a great idea. We also have so many friends from Los Angeles that come down and sleep over with their kids, I thought it would be really fun this Summer.

I remember visiting a house we wanted to buy back in the day and they had red spindle beds. I always loved the POP of color in the house. I found these spindle beds that I fell in love with.

This house doesn’t lean red so I opted for the matcha green color. Unisex, yet vibrant. Of course they came and I sent them back right away, I am a blue girl through and through and I need to go with my gut.

The room in my head was their own little sea-side cabin escape. My son loves boats and fishing so I give him what he wanted but mixed with what I like (of course).

I painted the walls Tallow from Farrow and Ball, a beautiful pale yellow-ivory color. The trims in Benjamin Moore’s ‘Mayonnaise’.

Got two full size mattresses from Helix Sleep Kids and these really sweet blue and white stripe sheets.

I get comforter inserts only from Gooslings- they are a little on the higher price side but their feather down insert is like no other I have ever felt. I opted for the white scallop duvet cover, their fabrics are just so soft. Believe me when I say it, this isn’t an ad.

I found these quilt like, cute boat pillows on Spilled Milk. They are so sweet and well made.

I did the roman shade from Gotain from their cottage collection. I do pottery barn white linen curtains on either side. I liked print, but didn’t want to over do it. I love the look of a roman layered with standard curtains.

I got this rug and it’s even better in person, its actually reminds me of great sand color.

My mom gave me this vintage pine dresser that I had as a kid which made it all that more special. I found more here on 1st Dibs or look at a local antique market. They are the best dressers and really add warmth to a room.

Found an old antique boat at a store called Minney’s in Newport and these two reading lights here.

Art, I found this old blue print in Boston in an book store when I was there for my mom’s birthday - got it framed in a Burl wood. This little painting from Etsy.

Added this little stool from Olive Atelier’s, a phone from Tin Can and were done! It all sort of flows and feels warm and childlike, yet like a Nantucket retreat.

I did a green version below for a more “boyish” tone and a pink for a girl’s room- how sweet!

Wall Color: Blanc De Chine, Green Beds, Red Piping Linen Sheets ( I LOVE red with green), Shell Wall Sconces, Pine Dresser, Block Print Blanket, Gotain Curtains , Rug (love this one so much!)

Wall Color: Setting Plaster ( I have this in my daughters room now and its so pretty), Block Print Duvet Cover, this amazing rug that has pink stitching on the edge, Wood Boat, Silver shell Wall Sconces, Block Print Pillow.

Ready for friends to come over and listen to them giggle in the other room

Will my kids both sleep in there…..that is THE QUESTION!!!!!?

For now, it’s great to look at and makes me happy!
