From Assignment to Process: Making Student Thinking Visible

In the last edition, the focus was clear: students are already using AI, and the issue is no longer access, but structure. The risk is not that AI exists in the classroom. The risk is that it is used without a defined process, leaving teachers unable to see how students arrive at their answers.

That edition closed with a commitment: a practical way to bring structure back into the learning process.

This issue delivers that model.

Traditional assignments were built for a different environment. A student received instructions, worked independently, and submitted a final product.

That model assumed the work between start and finish was visible enough to assess.

It no longer is.

AI can now generate complete responses instantly. The result looks correct, but the thinking behind it is unclear. What changed is not student intent. What changed is the visibility of the process.
