Recording + March Shows

Our month of March started off with a lot of recording in our home studio (aka, sun room). Among other projects, we were commissioned to record a cover of a song by one of our most respected contemporaries, Wax Mannequin, and work on that one is nearing completion! The person behind the music is a solid human being, art/artist supporter and real Canadian indie-scene stalwart and we’ve had the pleasure of performing a few Ontario shows with him over the last two decades.

We’ve got behind the scenes footage and a great recording to show for our hard work recording this cover; it just needs to be tackled from behind the mixing desk (aka, our dining room) before it is unleashed. We performed an intimate little show in cozy rural Port Medway on March 5th. It was the perfect testing ground for our longer, more relaxed 1-4 hour sets we will be performing throughout the province over the rest of this year. Sure, we’re a rock band, and a punk band, but we’re also singer-songwriters and a folk act when push comes to shove.

There was no pushing or shoving at the lovely and quaint cafe, Rosefinch Mercantile, where we performed a semi-acoustic blend of covers (including our take on Michael Hurley’s Werewolf) and originals. We took the opportunity to debut a couple of new songs for a small and very attentive audience of music lovers who’d never seen (or even heard of) us before. And of course we played Empty Handed, our self-proclaimed hit single about systemic violence, income disparity and police brutality.

Chase it all with a gentle encore of Saul William’s The Pledge, and we left the evening satisfied that we’d given a solid performance alongside locally-made plushies and herbal teas. Truth be told, it was an all-hands-on-deck night of community building of which we were proud to be a part. Thanks so much for including us in this experience, The Rosefinch Post !
