If you’ve been paying attention to my newsletter, you’ve likely heard me talk about The Midnight Lantern Foundation a lot in recent months. Earlier this year, we officially launched this 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our mission is to help kids and families who are going through difficult times, and we want to do it through the lens of things that have meant so much to us throughout our lives: horror, sci-fi, fantasy, books, comics, games, toys, stories, imagination, and a little bit of weirdness.
Okay.
Maybe a lot of weirdness.
If you’re like us, you know that a great horror novel, a fantasy RPG, a night playing board games, or even a Godzilla toy glowering at you from a shelf can bring you a great deal of happiness, comfort when you need it most, an escape even when times are tough. Books and comics can open the door to reading and creativity. Games can help you find friends. A little fantasy… or whimsy… or even a startling fright can remind you that there is joy to be found… in fantastical worlds and in this one.
We’re intentionally starting small. Our focus has been regional. It will likely remain so for the first few years, but we want to (slowly) expand our reach. We’ve been working behind the scenes, collecting items, talking to potential partners, planning events, and figuring out how we can make the biggest impact with the resources we have. Starting small… though we have big plans.
But we need your help.
There are operating expenses. There are event costs. There are supplies. Most importantly, there are costs associated with collecting, storing, organizing, and distributing donations to the kids and families we’re helping.
So today, I’m asking directly…
If you believe in what we’re building, if you want to get in on the ground floor of this exciting new initiative, please consider contributing to The Midnight Lantern Foundation. It doesn’t have to be a huge donation. A contribution of any amount helps. And because The Midnight Lantern Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, monetary donations are tax-deductible.
Donate to The Midnight Lantern
If you can’t donate right now, you can still help enormously by sharing this post, telling someone about the Foundation, connecting us with organizations that might want to work with us, or simply helping us spread the word.
Who knows what Midnight Lantern will look like five years from now?
I know what I want it to become.
Something that takes all these strange, wonderful things we love and uses them to do some genuine good.
A light in the dark.
You can help make it happen.
I’d love for you to help us carry the lantern.
