What summer taught me and what I'm carrying into fall

Enjoying a nice spa day with my husband at QC spa in NYC.

August always does something to me.

There’s a particular quality to the last weeks of summer, something that feels like both an exhale and a reckoning. The year is more than half over. Fall is coming. And I find myself taking stock in a way that January’s fresh-start energy never quite produces.

So here is where I actually am, heading into the last quarter of the year.

I wrote to you from the plane a few weeks ago about my first trip without my son since he was born. I landed, I exhaled, I missed him in the specific way that only distance creates. And I came back a more present version of myself than the one who left.

I’m not going to over-romanticize it. It was a few days. But those few days reminded me that taking care of myself is not in competition with taking care of him. It is the infrastructure that makes the rest possible. I have been saying that in newsletters for months. I needed to live it.

I guess all I needed was a solo trip or just rest to get the motivation to get up at 5am to get a workout done. It felt so good; doing something good for my body and myself and Im looking forward to being consistent with it.

This year has made me more intentional about what I’m putting in my body, how I’m protecting my sleep, and how I’m managing the weight of a career that holds some of the heaviest moments imaginable. I work in an Infant Cardiac ICU. I hold those families and those outcomes in my body whether I acknowledge it or not. Building habits that support my system is not optional it is maintenance.

I’m not ready to say more than that. My family is navigating something significant and it is good; genuinely good but it is not mine to share fully yet. I’ll tell you when the time is right.

What I will say is that this year has been one of the most stretching and clarifying years of my life. Turning 40 soon. Building a business that I believe in. Raising a child who is becoming a whole person in front of me. Carrying a marriage across distance and trusting God with the timing.

None of it is easy. All of it is worth it.

The same thing I always want for you to feel less alone in the hard parts and more confident in the everyday ones. For the information I share to land as a hand on your shoulder rather than a standard to measure yourself against.

Sick season is coming. You are more prepared than you were a month ago and you are doing an amazing job!

September newsletters are going to go deep on RSV, flu season, and what to watch for as the weather shifts. Stay with me.

If this newsletter made you feel more prepared and less panicked; that’s exactly what the Inner Circle is built for.

More clinical depth, more personal honesty, and a community of parents navigating the same season in real time. Its that space I’ve built for the conversations that don’t fit in the free newsletter.
