Pulaski 1-4 came to BARCS on 8/24 as stray orphan kittens. These tiny babies are facing significant medical challenges and need a rescue partner who can provide the intensive care and monitoring they require.
All four kittens are suffering from severe conjunctivitis, with at least one eyelid on each kitten sealed shut by discharge. Their eyes are painful, inflamed, and will require ongoing treatment and close observation as they recover. Because they are so young, eye infections like these can progress quickly and may have lasting effects if not treated appropriately.
One kitten, Pulaski #4, is especially concerning. In addition to severe conjunctivitis, this kitten has a descemetocele in the left eye. This is a deep ulcer that extends through most of the layers of the cornea and places the eye at risk for rupture. This condition requires prompt veterinary attention and careful monitoring.
These orphaned kittens are extremely small, ranging from just 0.64 to 0.82 pounds, and will need all of the support, nutrition, and medical care that young kittens require. They deserve the opportunity to recover in a rescue or foster environment where they can receive the individualized attention that is difficult to provide in a busy shelter setting.
