Turn Your Heart to God

Last night I had a dream that left me thinking about something simple, but deeply important.

You can read your Bible without turning your heart toward God.

You can pray without turning your heart toward God.

You can attend church, join a small group, serve on a team, go on a mission trip, or faithfully give to your church—and still never truly turn your heart toward Him.

That isn’t meant to discourage us. It’s meant to awaken us.

The external actions of faith are good. God has given us those practices to help us know Him. But none of them automatically mean our hearts are engaged.

It’s possible to do all the right things for all the wrong reasons.

We can read out of obligation instead of love.

We can pray out of routine instead of relationship.

We can serve for recognition instead of worship.

Only God truly knows the posture of our hearts.

That’s why turning our hearts toward Him is something no one else can do for us. It’s deeply personal. It’s not measured by how many words we say or how many spiritual boxes we check. In fact, you can say very little and genuinely turn your heart toward God. You can also say all the right words without ever drawing near to Him.

Jesus said, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (Matthew 15:8).

That verse reminds me that what God desires most isn’t impressive religious activity. He desires us.

So today, wherever you are—whether you’re sitting in church, driving to work, walking through a difficult season, or simply enjoying an ordinary afternoon—I want to encourage you to pause for a moment.

Turn your heart toward God.

You don’t need the perfect prayer.

You don’t need the perfect words.

Just offer Him your attention, your affection, your honesty, and your surrender.

Because at the end of the day, that’s what He’s always been after.
