Hello Again Old Friend

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything… or drawn much, to be honest. I had a baby in October and, despite my overly-optimistic ambitions, managed neither the time nor the energy to post consistently—art, blogs, new products, any of it. Turns out babies are a lot of work. Who knew? Everyone? Everyone knew.

I don’t know. I’m bored? I’m longing for consistent creative output? I’m frustrated with bureaucracy at work? I need accountability? I’m looking for something to do other than moderating breast milk output? Probably some combo of all that.

I have a bunch of ideas for longer-term projects. I’d like to become a person who finishes longer-term projects. This space offers me the opportunity to chronicle that process, show my work, gain a following, write some mid-length content, manage an email list, and link to the final product(s) once they’re live. I hate social media. This is different enough to be interesting for now.

Consistency is best when trying to build a following on sites like this. I have a 9 month old and a full time job so I can’t promise consistency but I’ll try. I’ll aim for fortnightly updates—mostly because I enjoy the word fortnight but also because twice-ish a month sounds like a reasonable commitment.

To begin, I’m creating a bookmark series called “13 Dwellings.” It’ll feature 13 skinny, oddball homes. I’ve completed two so far and am currently re-doing the first because I didn’t love the result. I want to use this project to evolve my mixed media technique so re-dos are allowed. I’ll also be sticking with traditional art for a while because I am sick of screens (she says as she writes this post, by choice, on a screen).

So come along for the ride if you’re interested. I have no idea where this will go or how long I’ll stick to it.

For now, though, I’m curious and curiosity is important.
