A journey from crucifixion to dawn

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” — John 1:5

As we leave the shadows of Good Friday, we carry within us the sacred tension between grief and hope. Jesus' final words from the cross invite us into deep compassion, aching honesty, and ultimate surrender.

This liturgy allowed your whole body to bear witness — through voice, breath, silence, gesture, story, and stillness.

  • “Father, forgive them…” → I open my hands in release.

  • “Today you will be with me…” → I hold hope in my chest.

  • “Behold your son…” → I reach toward community.

  • “Why have you forsaken me?” → I honor the ache.

  • “I thirst.” → I name my longing.

  • “It is finished.” → I allow endings.

  • “Into your hands…” → I entrust all that I am.

  • Light a candle or sit with water. Reflect on a word or phrase that lingered.

  • Move with a gesture from tonight’s liturgy. Let your body carry prayer.

  • Journal or create an image of what “shadow” and “light” mean to you right now.

  • Share a word of blessing with someone who is holding sorrow.

May you rest in the unknown,
Abide in the ache,
And trust the slow rising of dawn.

“Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” — Psalm 30:5
