Winter is when I find myself most grateful for a well-stocked pantry. There’s nothing quite like pulling a jar of homemade soup off the shelf, heating it up, and having dinner ready in minutes—especially when the wood stove is going and the snow’s still falling outside.

Clockwise from Top Left: Chicken and Vegetable Soup, Black Bean Soup, Potato Leek Soup and Mushroom Soup Base

These winter soup recipes are all pressure canning recipes, and they’re filled with hearty ingredients like beans, squash, potatoes, and root vegetables—perfect for the deep freeze of January. Whether you're craving a rich chowder, a comforting bean soup, or a creamy vegetable base, this collection has something to keep your kitchen warm.

If you’ve never tried pressure canning, winter is the perfect time to get started. I’ve put together a beginner’s guide to pressure canning to walk you through the basics, and there’s also a detailed guide to safely developing your own soup recipes for canning if you’re hoping to preserve a family favorite.

There are more than 100+ soup canning recipes on Creative Canning to explore, but here are some of my go-to recipes for the colder months…

If you haven’t pressure canned soup before, just a reminder: these are low-acid foods, and they need to be pressure canned for safety. Every recipe linked here is based on a tested method or safe variation, with timing and jar sizes noted.

And as always—if there’s a soup you’d love to can, but don’t see listed here, just hit reply or leave a comment and I’ll help you track down a safe, tested version (or point you to the best base recipe to start from).
