In this episode of Sparks in the Dark: Eastertide, we reflect on the God who comes looking for us in the midst of our brokenness, exhaustion, and ordinary daily lives.
Mary Magdalene stands near the tomb weeping.
The disciples return to fishing.
Both stories carry this deep ache, longing, and disorientation.
And yet—in both stories, Jesus comes toward them first.
Together, we explore the ancient image of The Harrowing of Hell—Christ descending into the deepest darkness searching for humanity—and how Eastertide reminds us that there is no darkness Love is unwilling to enter.
Sometimes resurrection is already present around us… but we do not recognize it yet.
And maybe Eastertide is the season where we slowly awaken to the realization that Love has been standing on the shore all along.
At the end of the episode, I’ll share a Celtic prayer song created for this Eastertide journey.
Take one slow breath.
Imagine yourself standing on the shoreline at dawn.
The night has been long.
Your nets feel heavy or empty.
You are tired.
And yet…
there is already a small fire burning on the shore.
A welcoming fire.
A fire that says:
“There is still warmth here.”
“There is still hope here.”
Now imagine Jesus gently calling your name.
Maybe like He called Mary.
Maybe like the voice calling across the water toward the disciples.
Maybe even like that ancient question asked in the garden:
“Where are you?”
Not as condemnation.
But as invitation.
As Love searching for humanity once again.
And quietly, within yourself, place your own name there.
“_____… where are you?”
And simply notice what rises within you.
No pressure.
No performance.
No perfect answer.
Only the possibility that Love is still calling us out from hiding…
and leading us home again.
