Belleville Police responded to 223 calls for service over a 48-hour period beginning at 5 a.m. on August 19 to 5 a.m. on August 21.

Body recovered

On August 20, at 10:47 a.m., Belleville Police were notified of a deceased person in the Bay of Quinte. Emergency Services attended and recovered the body. The investigation is continuing under the direction of the Chief Coroner’s Office with assistance from members of the Belleville Police Service Criminal Investigation Division.

Sexual assault

On August 5, 2026, an adult female reported to the Belleville Police Service that she had been sexually assaulted and assaulted with a weapon by her former spouse.

Members of the Belleville Police Service Criminal Investigation Division conducted an investigation into the allegations. As a result of the investigation, a 66-year-old Belleville man was arrested on August 20, 2026, and charged with: Sexual Assault; and Assault with a Weapon.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Bail violations

On August 15, a 46-year-old male of no fixed address was arrested and charged in connection with a mischief investigation after a window at a downtown Belleville business was damaged. The accused was subsequently released on an Undertaking with conditions that included not attending within 100 metres of the business.

On August 19, at approximately 10 a.m., members of the Belleville Police Service Community Response Unit received information that the same individual had returned to the business, contrary to his release conditions. Officers attended and conducted an investigation.

As a result of the investigation, the male was arrested and charged with:

· Fail to Comply with an Undertaking

· Fail to Comply with a Probation Order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Harassment charges

On the evening of August 18, Belleville Police received a report from a youth who stated they were hiding in a residential backyard in the city’s east end after being chased and threatened by another youth. Officers responded and located the complainant, who was not physically injured but expressed concerns for their safety.

As a result of the investigation, police determined there had been an ongoing pattern of harassment and threatening behaviour. The investigation led to the arrest of a 15-year-old female from Belleville. Pursuant to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identity of the accused cannot be released.

The accused was charged with: Criminal Harassment (two counts); and Uttering Threats to Cause Bodily Harm (two counts)

The accused was released on an Undertaking with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court in November 2026.

Drug charges

TRENT HILLS — Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two individuals following a drug trafficking investigation conducted by the Peterborough/Northumberland Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from the OPP Canine Unit (K9).

On August 20, police arrested two individuals in Campbellford. At the time of the arrests, officers seized a quantity of suspected cocaine and Canadian currency. One of the individuals was also found to be in possession of a prohibited device.

A third individual was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant.

Subsequently, officers executed search warrants at two residences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). During the searches, police located another individual wanted on an outstanding warrant and seized an additional quantity of suspected cocaine.

As a result of the investigation, officers seized approximately: 25 grams of suspected cocaine; $345 in Canadian currency; Drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Danielle Girard, 37, of Campbellford, has been charged with: Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine; Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Ronald Trafford, 46, of Campbellford, has been charged with: Possession of a Schedule I substance – cocaine; Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in November 2026.

Inmate charged

NORTHUMBERLAND — The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating an assault that occurred at a correctional facility in the Municipality of Brighton.

On July 11, 2026, police received a report of an incident involving two inmates at Warkworth Institution. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old male was charged on August 19, with:

• Assault causing bodily harm

• Assault with a weapon

• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

• Uttering threats.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in October.
