Someone messaged me recently asking me to look at where we are now versus 2015, when Bernie Sanders announced his first candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination — a moment that kicked off something much larger than any one campaign. I should probably disclose: I was a national delegate for Bernie in Philadelphia in 2016. My first federal election. So I have feelings about that period.

But here’s the thing. The viewer was asking for hope. And I want to answer that properly, which means zooming out further than Bernie, further than any single political figure or movement, to what the big planetary cycles are actually saying.

What I’m going to describe is genuinely complex, genuinely unusual, and genuinely hopeful. Let’s go.

A synodic cycle is the period between two planets’ conjunctions — when they meet at the same point in the sky and begin a new cycle together. Every pair of planets has its own synodic cycle, and those cycles have phases just like the Moon does: seed, growth, tension, crisis, release, new seed.

Here are the approximate synodic cycles and/or orbs of the slow-moving outer planets:

• Neptune-Pluto: ~500 years

• Uranus-Neptune: ~172 years

• Uranus-Pluto: ~140 years (varies somewhat due to Pluto’s elliptical orbit)

• Haumea (the Hawaiian creatrix goddess): 284-year orbit

• Manwë (associated with the breath of life and what some call the Law of Grace): ~288 years

When multiple long cycles are simultaneously active — when multiple pairs of slow-moving bodies are speaking to each other at once — something unusual is happening. And right now, all of them are.

This is probably the most familiar cycle for anyone who’s been following astrology for a while.

The seeds were planted in 1965–66, when Uranus and Pluto were conjunct. Civil rights. The counterculture. The first stirrings of ecological consciousness. The birth of the digital age.

From that seeding came seven opening squares between June 2012 and March 2015 — 7 exact squares, pressing and pushing for change from Aries and Capricorn: the self and the structures. Those years were genuinely disorienting — and they launched something. Bernie’s campaign beginning in 2015 was, in astrological terms, the direct aftermath of those squares activating everything planted in the 60s.

Now we are in the opening trine phase of that same cycle. The first exact trine was July 18th, 2026 — just this week. More will follow, at 4°, 6°, and finally 8° of Gemini and Aquarius, through 2028.

Squares push for change. Trines allow it to flow. The opening trine expands. We have moved from the hard push into the flowing channel.

This is the cycle that genuinely boggles the mind when you see it laid out.

The current Neptune-Pluto cycle began with their conjunction in 1891 — a 500-year cycle. Since then, they’ve been moving into their sextile phase.

The first cluster of Neptune-Pluto sextiles: 1950–1956. Second cluster: 1976–1979. Third cluster: 1980–1986.

And now — beginning July 25th, 2026 with the first at 4° Aquarius/Aries — eight more sextiles between now and the end of 2029. Then another cluster through 2030–2032, totalling thirteen sextiles in this final run.

Their opening square — the next major phase of this 500-year cycle — doesn’t arrive until 2061.

In other words: we are in an extended period of Neptune-Pluto cooperation that runs effectively from 1950 to 2032. But here’s what’s significant: they were NOT in exact sextile in 2015. This configuration is now part of a bigger convergence. It’s part of what makes now different.

Current Uranus-Neptune cycle began with their conjunction in 1993 — the World Wide Web, the end of the Cold War, the dawn of globalized consciousness.

In the Uranus-Pluto square years around 2015, these two were also not in exact aspect. Now they are.

They are making five sextiles between August 2025 and June 2027 — from Gemini to Aries, all at 4–5° of those signs. The first was August 28, 2025. The most recent was July 15, 2026. Two more come in January and June of 2027.

Again: this was not happening in 2015. This is new.

I’ve written elsewhere about the Pluto-Haumea square cycle, but here’s the overview.

Their current synodic cycle began with conjunctions in 1954–55. Their opening sextile came in 1996–97.

And then: 13 opening squares between 2022 and 2028. These began in Capricorn and Libra and have moved into Aquarius and Scorpio — the shadow of the collective meeting pure regeneration in the sign of deep transformation.

The most exact (basket activations) of these squares:

• February 17, 2026 at 4° Aquarius/Scorpio — the basket degree

• October 24, 2027 at 4°

• January 13, 2028 at 6°

They don’t square again until 2097.

In fixed signs, this is change that is slow, pressured, and lasting. Fixed signs want to make things manifest — to fix things in place, to create things based on values rather than impulse. The rebirth being pressed for here is not a quick fix. It is being built into the foundations.

And Haumea was not in this configuration in 2015. Another new convergence.

This is newer territory for me — I don’t work with Manwë extensively, but what I’ve found describes it as the breath of life, the highest and most peaceful intelligence of the divine. Some call it the Law of Grace. Manwë has a 288-year orbit and is currently in Aries, where Neptune also now sits.

Their first sextile was February 20, 2026 at 4° Aquarius/Aries — again, the basket degree. More sextiles follow through 2029 and beyond. Their opening square doesn’t come until November 2109. They are essentially in cooperative, flowing conversation throughout this entire period.

Here’s the bottom line.

In 2015, when Bernie’s campaign launched and something genuinely began to stir in the collective consciousness in the USA, the primary active configuration was the aftermath of the Uranus-Pluto squares — the momentum from those seven pushes for change. That alone was enough to shake things loose.

But Neptune-Pluto were not in exact sextile. Uranus-Neptune were not in exact sextile. Pluto-Haumea had not yet begun their square cycle. Pluto-Manwë had not reached their first sextile.

Now all of them are active simultaneously. All of them are speaking to each other, many of them at or near the same degrees (4° and 6° keep appearing across every single cycle I’ve described here). This convergence is unprecedented in the modern era. Richard Tarnas, in Cosmos and Psyche, gives these cycles wide orbs — meaning their influence extends well before and after exact aspects. When you use wide orbs for all of these simultaneously, we are inside something enormous.

One more thread worth mentioning: Rosie Finn’s research on Pluto out of bounds in Persephone’s Revolution.

Pluto moves beyond the Sun’s maximum declination — out of bounds — for two to three months each year between now and 2035. Her research suggests that Pluto out of bounds to the south correlates with periods of people rising up. 2035 is when Pluto stops going out of bounds for thousands of years.

We are inside that window right now.

I don’t want to attach a political label to any of this, because I think the thing that’s coming is genuinely beyond our existing labels. The arguments of left versus right, socialist versus capitalist, liberal versus conservative — these are all arguments conducted inside a paradigm that is itself changing.

Something genuinely different is coming. Not because it’s been decreed from above, but because necessity is going to force it. We are human beings on a shared earth, all in it together. The climate is changing whether we label it or not. Supply chains are shifting whether we label them or not. The illusion of separation is dissolving whether we find it comfortable or not.

The power-over paradigm is going. It’s going slowly, messily, with the extinction burst we are currently witnessing. But it is going.

What I see coming — and what the cycles point toward — is something closer to what Barbault called a splendid relaunch of civilisation. Not Shangri-La. Not utopia. Something genuinely more oriented toward the earth, toward each other, toward what actually sustains life. A power-from-within paradigm instead of power over.

Bernie started something. AOC, Mamdani, and many others are carrying it further. But it’s bigger than all of them. It’s beyond the political labels. It’s the cycles. It’s the convergence of 500-year orbits and 170-year orbits and everything in between, all speaking together for the first time.

That’s why this moment is unlike anything we have ever known.

And yes — there is hope. Real hope, grounded in the sky above us.
