You are not lazy. You are not unmotivated. You are not falling apart. You are just dealing with all three at the same time, and nobody gave you the language for it until now. In this episode, Christine and Andrew introduce three terms straight out of the Corporate Inmate vocabulary and break down exactly what happens when they collide. Corporate Summer Brain. The slow, foggy, checked-out mental state that hits every inmate between Memorial Day and Labor Day when half the office is on vacation, the meetings feel pointless, and your ability to care about quarterly goals is hanging by a thread. Coping Hours. The time you spend doing the things that get you through the day that have nothing to do with actual work. The extra coffee runs. The long lunches. The scrolling. The staring out the window. The survival mechanisms that fill the gaps when the tank is running low. Corporate Hangover. The aftermath. What happens to your mind and body after a brutal stretch inside the walls. The exhaustion that sleep does not fix. The emotional flatness. The feeling of being wrung out by a system that took everything and left you running on fumes. Separately, each one is manageable. Together they create a spiral that is hard to name and even harder to climb out of. Christine also brings up the Inmate Index over at corporateinmate.com where you can find the full glossary of Corporate Inmate terms because language is power and you deserve words that actually describe what you are living. Then they get into real ways to combat all three when they hit at the same time. Because summer is supposed to be parole season, not a slower version of the same sentence.
