There are two paths. The midlife awakening and the late in life identity crisis. One is a gift you give yourself. The other is a bill that comes due whether you are ready for it or not. Christine and Andrew get personal in this episode about where they both are in their own awakening and why they would choose the discomfort of waking up now over the devastation of waiting until there is no runway left. Because the awakening does not feel good at first. It feels like restlessness. Like dissatisfaction. Like something is off and you cannot put your finger on exactly what it is. Most people sedate that feeling. They take the promotion, extend the lease on the golden handcuffs, and tell themselves they will figure it out later. Later is the crisis. They also get into how corporate is specifically designed to delay the awakening. The salary is comfortable enough. The benefits are good enough. The title feels like too much to walk away from. And every year you stay, the story you tell yourself about why you cannot leave gets longer, more convincing, and harder to argue with. But the restlessness does not go away. It just gets louder. And eventually it stops asking nicely. You do not have to have it all figured out. You just have to stop pretending the signal is not there. The awakening is not a destination. It is a decision. And it is available to you right now, regardless of your age, your title, or how many years you have already given to the wrong life. Choose the awakening. While you still can.
