August Update: Slowly Getting Back to Normal

Back in June I shared a 3–4 month roadmap for The Contrarian Capitalist.

I then shared an update in July.

This is an update for August.

The reason for this update is to explain why The Contrarian Capitalist Podcast & Substack has not been operating at full capacity for the last few months, and what the road ahead looks like.

A quick summary - In April 2026, my former property/real estate business partner attempted suicide for the second time. I was in Mexico when it happened and immediately returned to the UK.

It has since become clear that he had been quietly struggling with a serious mental health decline for several years without telling anyone. This built up until it resulted in a severe breakdown in April.

It has also become apparent to me that this decline could be linked to possible business/financial challenges (non-Contrarian Capitalist related).

Since the last update in July, 2 of the 3 businesses have had to start a formal insolvency process and the other 1 is undecided at the time of writing this post.

I’m now bound by certain rules and regulations to do with these processes, so I am not able nor willing to say much else as I don’t want to get in any unnecessary trouble.

Ultimately, I have to let the professionals do their job and work with them in the background if and when they require my services.

NB - The Contrarian Capitalist is not one of the businesses affected

It has been a very time-consuming couple of months, which reflects why this channel has not been operating at full capacity. The next few weeks are likely to be very intense as well due to the amount of paperwork that likely needs to be done my side.

Once this is done then my understanding is that the professionals in charge of the processes will be the ones dealing with everything and everyone else.

That’s all I can say on that.

I will be back in Mexico in September and this, combined with being able to see my wife again for the first time in nearly 5 months, and the professionals picking up most of the work, will give me more time and that means that I will be able to get back to some sense of normality and consistency with The Contrarian Capitalist.
