In my last post, I shared some of the beliefs I’ve had to unlearn.
As I was writing it, I kept coming back to something that’s always bothered me about so much of the healing content we consume: we’re encouraged to identify the beliefs that no longer serve us, rewrite them, and eventually let them go… but somewhere along the way, the conversation usually skips over the most important part:
How do we actually do that?
If you’ve carried a belief for years—sometimes since childhood—it isn’t just an idea floating around in your mind. It’s something you’ve likely gathered evidence for over and over again. It’s shaped the way you’ve interpreted your experiences, the expectations you’ve had of yourself and other people, and the choices you’ve made, often without even realizing it.
So, how exactly do you let go of something that has become part of the lens through which you’ve been seeing the world?
The truth is, old beliefs have a way of lingering long after we’ve stopped agreeing with them. If awareness was enough, most of us would have let go of our deepest fears and insecurities the moment we understood where they came from.
If this is something you’ve struggled with—if you’ve ever wondered why certain beliefs seem impossible to shake despite all the inner work you’ve done—this post is for you. I want to walk you through what it actually means to release a belief, why simply replacing it with a more positive one usually doesn’t work, and what has genuinely helped me loosen the grip of beliefs that no longer reflected who I was becoming.
My hope is that, by the end of this post, you feel more grounded, more supported, and more confident in your ability to heal and grow beyond the stories that have shaped you.
