And suddenly life fades, dissolves beneath the glass,
a submerged silence but for whinnying water,
whining, whirling,
as it spins like dreams around the ears.
The body moves with intuition,
seal-skinned, flipper-footed,
it knows the silent laws of swimming pools
and how to cleave this breathless paradise,
torso moving, turning, kicking legs,
the mind adrift with distant thoughts,
blooming like bubbles that stream from the nose,
until the burning chest, burning throat,
eyes straining red in the enveloping blue,
which means there must be noise again,
the world again,
pushing, gasping through.
