Storytelling is one of my favorite ways to help children
understand their fears,
see situations differently
and open up to solutions and courageous action.
When we create a story that reflects a child’s specific fear, they can recognize themselves in the situation. But because the story is about another character—not them—it gives them enough emotional distance to relax and explore new ideas.
Storytelling won’t necessarily create an immediate change, although sometimes it can. But it helps your child open up and see new possibilities.
In this post, I’ll give you a step-by-step process for creating a personalized story to help your child understand and move through one specific fear.
Your answers to the following questions will naturally come together to create a story with a beginning, middle, and end.
