High Summer Favorites

Hi friends! Before we dive in, some light housekeeping :)

-First, apologies for being MIA over here on Sub🥞 for the past week... maybe two? Sh*t’s been a little crazy. I’ve been dealing with an annoying, unexpected health situation. Nothing major! Nothing too scary! It did, however, turn a perfectly lovely day trip out to the Hamptons into a late-night trip to the ER. 🫠 Silver lining? I learned that the best cure for antibiotic-induced nausea is apparently the blueberry peach muffins from Round Swamp. Helps justify the price imo. Hopefully you’ve been keeping up with me on other platforms in the meantime!

-On that note, I’m going strictly gluten-free for at least the next two weeks (and maybe longer) while I deal with said health stuff. Keeping it intentionally vague because, truthfully, my doctors and I are also feeling a little vague and confused at the moment.

So... I need your help. Please send me every gluten-free recommendation you have. Favorite products, recipes, bakeries, restaurants, specific dishes in NYC or anywhere in the world, snacks, pantry staples—literally anything. I’m looking for all the recs to get me through these dark, gluten-less times. 🫡

High Summer Faves

1. J.Crew Cashmere Beaded Sweater Tee - a fun cashmere take on a graphic tee from my forever fave, J.Crew. Currently on sale, unbelievably soft (as to be expected from cashmere), incredibly lightweight, and embellished! I've been wearing it with these side-tie pants and my beloved paracord sandals.

2. Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Sun Tint - That particular glowing-from-within, slightly flushed look you get after a day in the sun (before the burn) in a bottle from Physicians Formula. Think of it as a more bronzey, buildable version of the Benetint you once begged for when you were 13. I've been blending it onto the high points of my face with my fingers and a fluffy brush atop this classic.

3. Yesteryear! What a good, mind-bending summer read that kept me hooked while also managing to keep me completely in the dark when it came to the inevitable twist. Now I’m on to devouring Strangers, another New York Times bestseller.

   I used to be a print—specifically hardcover—book snob ($30-per-book girl, touch grass), but the space in my studio apartment and the $$ in my bank account were simply not conducive to my snobbery. Thank God (also known as my mother) for turning me on to dat Kindle lyfe because I’m back on my reading grind without needing to take out a loan or rent another storage unit to accommodate my growing digital book collection. It’s so lightweight I can throw it in my bag for the subway or the beach, and the books are so much less expensive. Can’t rec it enough.

4. Undo makes my fave hair clips (along with Emi Jay, of course). The No. 2, which looks deceptively small, can easily hold all my hair up when the subway heat has it sticking to the back of my neck. Italian-made, intentionally designed, and an integral part of the Cool Girl Tool Box.

5. Abbode Terry pouches just launched for summer, and I can't get enough. Admittedly, I don't have this one yet, but I am the proud owner of six Abbode pouches, which I use every day, on every trip, and for every possible product category in my life. The interior is lined and wipeable, while the exterior is soft and absorbent, making it the perfect beach or pool pouch.

6. CouCou Intimates' Rina ¾ Length Tee is THAT GIRL. I've never met a more flattering tee that gets so many compliments. You might be doubting a long sleeve in high 70s–90s heat, but trust—the fabric is so lightweight, breathable, and surprisingly cooling.

7. Madewell's Mini Woven Tote has been my everyday bag of choice! I love the dark espresso brown as a softer alternative to black. I added these bag handle charms for an extra pop of color. If you're in Sag Harbor this summer, be sure to stop by their new store that just opened! Their team is wonderful, and there are a few fun store-exclusives.

8. La Bonne Brosse is probably my most chatted-about brand and one of the only ultra-luxury beauty brands I actually think is worth it. Just ask—I’ll always have an LBB on me and in my bag. No really, I have five.

   When I was packing for Paris, I wanted to test my theory that the small LBB would be enough for everyday use. For reference, the small is $155 and the standard size is $198. I have fine hair, but a lot of it, and as you know, I have bangs, which require being brushed and blown out twice a day (never claimed to be low-maintenance, haha).

   The small brush was perfect, and I never found myself wishing I had brought the standard size. It’s larger than pocket-sized but definitely compact enough to throw in your everyday bag, beach bag, etc. If you’re wanting a major brush upgrade but $200 sends you over the edge, just get the small—it really is all you need.

9. Viani Milano x Lilly Sisto Florence Mary Janes have been my easy go-tos this summer. I love a Venetian-style flat/Mary Jane because it feels like wearing socially acceptable slippers in public. The gingham with the red piping is so darling! Next on my list are these sneaks.

10. Two years late to Tomato Girl Summer, but hey... here I am!! I've been obsessed with Apollo Bagels' tomato bagel lately (basic and delish!) and bought a cute custom Sabre tomato knife to recreate it at home. Because if there's one thing that'll convince me to enter my kitchen, it's a cute tomato knife. Hehe.
