Thoughts 📆 Woke up and started my day thinking it was Friday. So that's how my day is going so far. Links https://ajkprojects.com/stopactinglikeyourefamous You aren’t famous. Anything you do or create will probably receive little to no attention, so stop optimizing for a non-existent audience and instead focus on what makes you enjoy the activity. Everyone gets trapped in this anytime we do…
Thoughts ⛏️One of the things I find the most frustrating is watching someone use the wrong tool for the task. It's a personal thing I know but wow, it is irritating.
Links This is absolutely epic. You can hear the co-presenter completely losing it off camera. The presenter had to be questioning their life choices at some point.
Thoughts ⚽️ I've never been a big fan of the USMNT (I'm a full on supporter of the USWNT !). I'm still not a fan of USMNT, specially after their red card "suspension". I feel like their result against Belgium was what they deserved.
Thoughts 🪚 Spent a fair amount of time doing woodworking over the weekend. Mostly making more "tools". I first made a DIY tracksaw which is super helpful. Then also started on a very basic shooting board. 🪚 Also ordered a number of tools that are to be delivered today. Something to keep me inspired to keep making and building stuff. Today's Jam
Links 📖 Created a new tool for my own personal use today https://readings.concertman.uk . It's amazing how we can create new tools so easily now and at such a low cost.
Thoughts Yeah it's been a while. I was off on holiday for a bit. We went up to Scotland which was a great get away. I did some hiking as well. I'll post some photos of that soonish. It's WWDC day!
Thoughts 🎸 Finally spent some more time over the weekend working on my hand built guitar. Planed it a bit more and then started cutting away the extra. It's all being done with hand tools to everything takes a bit longer.
Thoughts 👷♂️ Lots of work to do. I feel like I'm working two full time jobs. It's a lot of mental load. 🎮 I've been toying with the idea of getting back in to World of Warcraft . It's been a few years since I've played. Of course it's one of those games that more fun to play with other people, but I don't know anyone in the European timezones that play. If you're interested, let me know.
Thoughts 🤢 IBS sucks. Just figured out another thing I'm not able to eat. 🚅 The Uber for tains advertisement is super annoying. It feels like an example of how entitled people are.
Thoughts 🧺 My home office is a mess. It's really just been a catch all for all my stuff that doesn't have a place in the rest of the house. I really want to do a complete remodel of my office but that's going to come a lot later when we remodel the bathroom that is next to my office. 🖥️ just bought a new (to me) monitor for my mac mini on eBay. We'll see how this goes.
Thoughts 😵💫 It's been a few days. We've had family visiting from the US so all my mental energy has been spent on that. My sister and brother-in-law were here and my parents came over with them. I was mostly trying to manage their schedule whuile the were here and spend time with them. All while still trying to work at the same time. It was great having them here and hope they come back more…
Thoughts Last week was brutal. So much I had to do and wasn't feeling well for most of it. Anyway This week has been a bit better because there hasn't been as much to do but work has been crazy busy. 🎶 I just realised that tomorrow is Record Store Day . Probably going to go out and grab something. haven't really looked to see what the releases are.
Show date: 28 March 2026 Venue: The Royal Albert Hall Setlist The last time I saw Garbage live had to have been around 2001-2002 at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City. Some 25 years later they are still going as strong as ever. I absolutely love going to the Royal Alber Hall. The visuals are always stunning and the venue is legendary.
Show date: 28 March 2026 Venue: The Royal Albert Hall Setlist Honestly, there was only one song I wanted to hear Placebo play and they didn't play it. While disappointing, they really did put on a great performance. You could tell Brian Molko was feeling a bit emotional about being there and playing and it really came through in the performance. It made the whole performance more human and…
Thoughts 🚀 Really cool watching the Artemis launch last night. Looking forward to seeing the cool things they do during this mission. 🎸🎤 Went to see Placebo and Garbage at The Royal Albert Hall the other night. Blog post with lots of photos coming soon. 🤖 Had Claude do some work on the web design. If you're anti-AI then have fun with that.
Thoughts 🧠 I'm at the point (actually way past it) that I don't care what most people think about anything. Unless I know someone personally then I'm not concerned with their opinion about anything. 😣 I think part of the reason for my not caring about other's opinion is that the over all level of change and velocity of stuff is just crazy high. Today's Jam 🎶🧌 I've falling down the rabbit whole on YouTube of Gwar covering covering different pop songs. It started with them covering Pink Pony Club. I'm not going to post a link because I want you to ruin (improve) your own YouTube algorithm by searching for this yourself. 😂
Thoughts 🧠 Didn't do much thinking last week. Mostly just "doing". keeping busy 🤖 We are going to be entering into an age of completely personalised software here soon. I've already done some very custom websites and local tools that only work for me but they do exactly what I want. Stuf I wouldn't have spent time on previously but now can put together extremely cheaply.
Thoughts 🎤 Updated my concert listing page today. I need to spend some time going through the calender and see if there's anything I'd like to go see. 🎭 I should do something similar for the theatre as well. Not sure what that would look like though. I'll have to think it through a bit.
Thoughts 🎸 I really want to get back into my guitar building but since my woodworking shop is open air, it's still just been too wet/cold 😞 Links 🔗 https://blog.fsck.com/2026/03/09/superpowers-5/ I'm really appreciating Jesse's sharing around how he's using agentic workflows in development. Lot's of great stuff on his blog.
Thoughts 🦷 Tooth pain is never fun. Specially when you can't get into your dentist to have them actually address it for another month. 😖 I think I need to go see my physio again. I've managed to tweak my shoulder/neck again and I'm pretty sure it's pinching a nerve in my neck which is agrevating my tooth pain.
Thoughts Not much in the way of thinking today. Links https://concerts.lynnandtonic.com - This work is amazing. It's inspired me to do something special with my concert posts.
TIL Ghostscript can make PDFs really tiny! I'd never actually heard of it before. Thoughts Trying a new format for the daily thoughts, as well as trying to keep up the daily thoughts. I hate being in shopping malls.
I'm just opening a new document at the start of my day (at least when I sit down at my computer) and updating it throughout the day as I think about new things to share. Oh hello February. January felt like 3 months long. February has just been a slow blur. It doesn't feel like it's going any faster but there's been a flurry of activity, tasks, responsibilities, etc. This coming weekend I'm being…
I've done my music recap for the year so now it's time for my reading overview. I do a lot of my reading through the Books app on my iPad but not everything. So while this is fairly accurate, it doesn't cover everything. For example, right now I'm reading On the Divine Liturgy by St. Germanus of Constantinople in the paperback form. Many of the theological books I read are just not available in…
It's that time of the year. Everyone is sharing their end of year lists and recaps. I'm no different. Starting with minutes listened: 17,411 minutes That's about 12 days. 1,267 different artists Top artist: Taylor Swift. Yep, the new album is great. Top Song: M-E-X-I-C-O by Post Malone. His new country album is great. I've not really gotten into his previous albums but his country album is a true,…
Yeah, looks like it's been a few weeks since posting the latest. So I've had the last week off and am off work for the rest of the year. This, of course, has given me time to catch up on a lot of tasks from outside my world of paid work, including updating my blog. Of course with some time off I've also gotten back into my gaming. When I say gaming though think more dull, boring, old guy gaming.…
A busy, but also not, week? Maybe I'll just classify it as mentally busy. I think I've finally gotten a system for posting "tweets" directly from my phone while on the move. It's basically a combination of Shortcuts , iCloud Drive, & bash scripts. All put together with the help of Claude Desktop . You can read the posts by going to Shorts Speaking of Claude Desktop , I'm pretty much all in on…
Weeknotes are popular on the indie web. So... When in Rome... Not too much happening. I hadn't felt too great this week and finally on Friday I just needed to rest and take the day off. Had a wonderful birthday dinner last Saturday. Le Relais de Venise Might be my new favourite restaurant. They only serve one thing and they do it extremely well. I've been catching up on Slow Horses . It's so good…
Usually after I haven't posted in a while I start with something that acknowledges the fact with some kind of statement saying I'm going to try and do more posting. Whatever. Really, it is what it is. I'll post when I feel like it and won't when I forget that my blog even exists. That's just the way it goes right? No pressure. It's just here for my own "use". Anyway... I have decided that I want…
Show date: 27 June 2025 Venue: Royal Albert Hall Setlist This was everything I want from a show. Great music, great production, great showmanship, great venue. It was all there. Overall this was a top show which I completely enjoyed.
Show date: 18 June 2025 Venue: O2 Arena Setlist This show might just have proven that I'm now too old to be on the floor in a show that might turn into a mosh pit (is that term still used?). Even so I held my ground and had a great view of the center stage in the middle of the arena. NIN started off with a smaller "acoustic" set that gradually grew over the first few songs. Then from there they…
Show date: 28 May 2025 Venue: Southbank Centre, Royal Festival Hall Setlist My main experience with The Swell Season was seeing the movie Once . I was really impressed by the show. Glen and Markéta are great songwriters and the whole band is extremely talented. Near the end they brought up The Web Sisters to do a few songs. They did a cover of Who by Fire by Leonard Cohen which was really good. At…
Show date: 6 June 2025 Venue: Victoria Park HUNNY HUNNY was good. She's got a very R&B vibe. Good stuff. I actually ran into her later on in the festival and she was so nice. I hope she continues to do well! Tirzah I've not heard of Tirzah before. I really liked her stuff. Very chill and interesting. I'll start listening to her stuff more. Forensics I'll be honest, I didn't realise Mos Def was now…
General And two months later I finally post something new. It's been a bit disjointed lately and posting to the blog has been a bit 'out of sight, out of mind'. Also there are some changes I want to make to the blog but those are being held off until later in June. Home This coming Wednesday scaffolding will start being installed around our house to allow for workers to begin converting our loft…
If you just got a ton of my old posts showing up in your RSS reader then I apologise. You might have already seen that images haven't shown up in my previous post in the RSS feed and I was trying to fix that. While fixing the image issue I noticed some out of date and just plain wrong items in my rss generation configuration and fixing them involved changing all the guid's for my rss feed. Doing…
How am I only hearing this track for the first time!? I certainly had to listen through a few times before moving on. It's not everyone's jam but I'm all about this.
