Belleville fire on Jane Street claims life of 13-year-old male
The young teen died despite quick response efforts by firefighters and paramedics to rush him to Belleville General Hospital after he was removed from heavy smoke in the building.

A fire on Jane Street on Tuesday evening has claimed the life of a 13-year-old male, sources have informed The Intelligencer.
The boy and his mother were quickly rushed to Belleville General Hospital by Hastings-Quinte Paramedics on Tuesday evening after Belleville firefighters discovered the two residents inside a smoke-filled apartment building.

According to a source close to the family for years, the boy passed despite prompt medical attention in the aftermath of the blaze.
The condition of his mother was not known at press time.
The full name of the victim has not been officially released by authorities.
Belleville Fire and Emergency Services Belleville responded quickly to the scene of the blaze on Tuesday given Jane Street is in close proximity off Coleman near Fire Station 2 on West Moira Street.
Firefighters remained on scene of the structure fire in the 100 block of Jane Street in the West Hill into the evening after dousing the blaze and checking for remaining hotspots.
“Firefighters made quick entry and found two victims trapped in the smoke. The victims were removed by firefighters and taken to hospital by Hastings-Quinte Paramedics,” said Deputy Chief Mark Shannon on the night of the fire.
Shannon said when firefighters arrived at the scene, “thick black smoke was found coming from a large building divided into three apartments.”
Belleville police blocked off Coleman and Jane Street area to keep the area clear for first responders.
The cause of the fire remains to be determined by investigators.
