I'm over polka dots

After years of quiet luxury and tonal everything (and don’t get me wrong there is a time and place for The Row-esque energy always and forever), print is something we’re embracing again. Not in a loud, look-at-me way, but in a considered, intentional way that actually feels more grown up.

Animal print, polka dots (I hesitate to include these because dare I say we’ve overcorrected on polka dots), gingham, zebra- think of these now as wardrobe tools. And the easiest entry point? Your shoes.

The rule I keep coming back to: one print, worn confidently, does more for an outfit than ten perfectly matched neutrals (cue, camo + gingham?!)

You don’t need to go full leopard-coat-and-zebra-trouser (though respect if you do and please do send me a picture). A printed sneaker with straight-leg jeans and a white tee is a complete outfit. A zebra pony hair with a camel coat and tailored trousers is effortless and interesting at the same time.

If you’re nervous about prints or maybe feel overwhelmed with how to integrate into your wardrobe, start with the shoe and keep everything else neutral. It’s the lowest-commitment way to test a print and it almost always works because the eye naturally goes to the foot anyway (especially in photos and video). A cow-print sneaker with indigo denim. A textured ballet flat with linen. A printed runner with wide-leg denim. SO intentional, not chaotic, because the base is clean.

SOME PAIRS CHECKING OUR BOXES RIGHT NOW:

LEOPARD PONY HAIR CHUCK TAYLORS
ADIDAS TOKYO PONY HAIR (DEER PRINT?!)
NIKE SUPERFLY PONY HAIR LEATHER (this orange is INSANE)

We’ve been thinking a lot about this heading into fall, ~ maximalism done with restraint ~ is one of the strongest aesthetic directions I’m feeling right now, and prints are central to it. We have something coming in October that we think is going to land exactly in this space. More soon.
