A brief note to give you this link to Flash August Fiction.
About a week remains. I have noticed a couple of things. I experiment when I do these marathons.
Writing in the early morning or late evening hasn’t made much of a difference this time. Sometimes it does. I wonder if that’s an effect of the radical reduction of caffeine use.
Unless I’m continuing a series and I have an idea about what I’m doing, my most recent stories have been very short. Sometimes around 200 words. I guess that’s considered microfiction.
What these shortened stories might tell me is that my writing has tightened and I can make some kind of point using fewer words. (Duh)
My series stories, like Ovals, Henry and Ronald, and especially Uncle Plasma, are the most interesting things, at least according to download numbers.
New Last Gas Station stories also do pretty well in terms of downloads. I think I’m going to revive that in Substack form. You could go to my website and search “Gas Station” in the search bar and see the entries for that series if you’d like to.
