Hello everyone!
Happy Sunday! First, I wish to announce that the Comics Odyssey podcast is now cancelled until further notice. I happened to see the numbers and the listenership is low. It’s true I don’t care about getting high listenership. The podcast is me hanging out with my friends to talk about comics. Then I share this with you. However, it does cost money and time. I have to pay for the recording software, then it takes time to record, edit and upload. That is only worth it if it’s something that people want. But from the metrics, it isn’t. So unless I see a major clamouring for the return of the podcast, it is over. I am choosing to spend that money and time elsewhere. I will still hang out and talk comics with friends but will not be turning it into a podcast.
If you were one of the handful of people who really liked the show, I’m sorry. I will do some more videos like this in the future but just not regularly.
This all falls in to my mid to long term plan to phase out all my online activity that is superfluous.
Regarding Spirt-Girl #4. I now am close to finished colouring. After this lettering will begin. We are on track with getting it available this summer. Keep an eye out for that. If you’d like to watch a behind the scenes video on how the colour palette was made and how I do the digital colouring, check this one out.
My wife and I have been enjoying the local amateur ball games. I had never watched a baseball game on TV really. I find the sport too slow. I’m more interested in spectating combat sports. But we tried it out and loved it. I now understand the appeal. It’s outside in the open air, in our case it’ got a lovely view of the mountains, it’s small enough (locally) to feel wholesome and community oriented, and the game is slow enough that even if you miss a little to get a hot dog you don’t feel left out. Increasingly, we’ve become isolated from each other due to social media and the gradually loss third places. Going to these ball games is both a leisurely outdoor activity, plus an opportunity to be in community with people from our town. The mascot for the team is constantly singing the Great White North theme song for some reason.
St Dymphna was born in Ireland in the 7th century. at 14 she consecrated herself to Christ and took a vow of chastity. Shortly after, her mother died and her father, a petty King, was deeply grieved and fell to mental affliction. He agreed to remarry if a woman as beautiful as his deceased wife was found. The search was fruitless and the King began to desire his own daughter Dymphna due to her resemblance to her mother. Dymphna fled the court to protect her vow of chastity.
Tradition holds that Dymphna settled in Belgium and started a hospice for the poor and sick. Her father (Damon) tracked her down and in his madness mistook her for his deceased wife. But Dymphna refused him again for she was already wed to a King, Christ. Damon - a pagan - in a mad rage beheaded his daughter. She was 15 years of age and was buried in a nearby cave.
St Dymphna is the patron saint of those who suffer from mental afflictions
