One morning after growing weary of the persistent doubts pursuing me for days, I did something that I’ve found often encourages my faith. I write my prayers to God, and then trust Him to give me His thoughts as I write. Such active listening is often rewarded with new insights and assurances of His love.
So on this day, I took my pen and notebook and deliberately listened to Truth. Here are a few excerpts from the pages I wrote that morning:
“If I could look into Your face, Lord, what would You say?”
I then wrote the thoughts that came to my mind.
“Never fear; I am guiding. I keep my promises because I am faithful. I never forget my own. What I promise, I always perform. Don’t doubt My abilities to give you My best.”
My doubts lifted as I focused on God and what I trusted He was saying.
When King David wrote the instructions for the plans of the Temple, he said, “I have in writing from the hand of the Lord upon me” (1 Chronicles 28:19). I take this to mean that the Spirit gave David His thoughts as he wrote. Amos wrote:
“He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind,
and who reveals his thoughts to mankind,
who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth—the Lord God Almighty is his name” (Amos 4:13).
Last week a friend who also receives God’s messages as she writes, wrote: “This is a ‘Word’ I received in my listening time….it pleases Me when you persevere, even though it’s one trouble after another….My Presence is drawn to your love and adoration given in the testing, trials and set backs!”
The amazing God who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundation of the earth longs to express His thoughts to us.
Thank You, Father, for revealing Your thoughts to us as we listen.
“I will listen to what God the Lord will say; he promises peace to his people” (Psalm 85:8).
