This is just to say

Happy National Poetry Month, everyone! Sure, taxes are due tomorrow (if you live in the US) and it’s decide-where-you’re-going to college month (if you’re a high school senior), and the world is a hot mess (if you’re a person currently living in the world), but thirty years ago, in April of 1996, the Academy of American Poets introduced National Poetry Month and I for one think that we’re all better for it.

Why the Academy of American Poets chose April for National Poetry Month is anyone’s guess, but I’m betting it’s because April comes up in a lot of poems you’ve probably heard of. T.S. Eliot wrote that April is the cruelest month and Geoffrey Chaucer rhapsodized about April’s sweet showers and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow enjoined us to listen up so he could tell us the story “Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere, / On the eighteenth of April, in 'Seventy-five,” and now here we are, in the middle of another April, and you’re probably wondering what any of this has to do with college adm…
